Cancellation of a lost share certificate (Swedish: dödande av aktiebrev) is a procedure for declaring void a missing share certificate, for example after loss or theft. The application is made to Bolagsverket, and the procedure includes a public notice asking any holder of the certificate to come forward.
Once the certificate has been cancelled, the company can issue a new certificate to the shareholder. This should be reflected in the share ledger, so there is no doubt about which certificate is valid.

A share certificate is written proof that a person owns certain shares in a limited company.
